Sea Water Healing Sees Locarno In Nations Cup Victory

Ellen Whitaker and her charismatic stallion Locarno 62THE brilliant partnership that is Britain’s Leading Lady Rider Ellen Whitaker and her charismatic stallion Locarno 62 has returned to the winner’s enclosure.

Competing in the fourth round of the Samsung Super League in Rotterdam, with uncle’s John and Michael, and David McPherson, Ellen and Locarno showed they are back to their best.

In round one Ellen, the youngest competitor in the field, crossed the finish line with just one time fault while in the second round another brilliant effort saw just one fence over the huge course fall.

Their combined effort saw Great Britain win the Rotterdam Nations Cup for the first time in 21 years.

The Grand Prix saw another great effort from Ellen and Locarno when they jumped a double clear and finished best of the British in fifth place, just beaten on time.

Following last season’s wrangles over ownership, the 11-year-old was bought by Dawn Makin and Ellen’s father Steven securing the ride for Ellen.

Then this spring Locarno was diagnosed with a bruised heel which put him out of action for some time.

Wanting to get Locarno back on the road as soon as they could Steven had a Panama Spa fitted and thanks to the healing powers of the sea, the stallion is now fit and well again for a summer campaign.

Area Trial wins at Oldcotes and Weston Lawns saw Ellen and Locarno back to their winning ways before their trip to Rotterdam for the Super League.

Said Steven: “The Panama Spa made a huge difference to Locarno’s recovery and without doubt speeded up the healing process.

“The sea water took out the inflammation in the bruising and helped to grow new, stronger hoof.

“It has been known for years the sea water it very good for horses legs and the Panama Spa brings the healing powers of the sea to the yard.

“We could not have got him back to fitness without the Panama Spa and are now looking forward to planning his next campaign.”
